Disability & Leave

Life has a way of taking us by surprise. That’s why Mattamy provides a safety net with disability insurance through MetLife. This coverage replaces a portion of your income if you’re unable to work due to a covered illness, injury, or pregnancy for a limited period of time.

Eligible team members are automatically enrolled and Mattamy pays the cost of short-term and long-term disability coverage. Since Mattamy pays the premium, any benefits at time of claim are taxable.

You can always log into your MetLife portal, whether you are managing a claim, checking on your leave status, or just learning more to prepare for a leave down the line. To contact MetLife, just call 833-622-0139 (group number: 269310).

Use the tabs below to explore which leave types you are eligible for.

Short-term Disability (STD) coverage can replace part of your paycheck if you’re unable to work for several weeks.

Mattamy provides this coverage at no cost to you. There is a two-week waiting period (14 days) from the disability event and when you begin to receive pay. You must submit a claim in order for your benefits to take effect. Mattamy pays for an STD Bridge benefit that covers 100% of your salary or hourly rate during this waiting period.

Your STD benefits begin on the 11th day of disability and covers 60% of your earnings up to $2,000 for up to 26 weeks (including the elimination period).

The Short-Term Disability Bridge Benefit (STD Bridge) is a sick leave for a paid time off benefit that allows eligible Mattamy team members to continue to receive pay during the time between a short-term disability event (illness, injury, birth event) and the time that the approved STD leave begins to pay out a benefit. The bridge plan is to allow for continuous pay for 10 days per STD claim event per calendar year.

Long-term Disability (LTD) coverage can provide lasting income protection if you remain unable to work beyond the short-term window. Mattamy Homes provides this coverage at no cost to you.

Your LTD benefits begin once your STD benefits end (on the 181st day of disability) and covers 60% of your earnings up to $10,000 per month. These payments continue until your Social Security Normal Retirement Age if you remain unable to work.

Mattamy offers 80 hours of fully paid time off for eligible team members welcoming a new child.

Paid Parental Leave can be used simultaneously with any other leave of absence benefit and must be taken within six months of the date of birth or placement of adoption. Keep in mind – if you are the birth parent, you also receive Short-Term Disability (STD) coverage from Mattamy. See your Leaves & Disability page for more information on STD.

The Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) provides eligible team members with unpaid time off with job and benefit protection for specific personal and family medical needs.

FMLA allows you to take up to 12 weeks to care for your newborn or adopted child. Family and Medical Leave runs simultaneously with any other leave of absence benefit.
